To create a timely product roundup, I tapped into the season premiere of HBO’s immensely popular series, “A Game of Thrones.” By imagining what one of the characters might put in her shopping cart if she were furnishing a room on Houzz.com, I vetted 50 theme-driven products and wrote the corresponding copy.

"Great Gifts for Mom"

 

The merchandising team culled 50 products from the Houzz.com inventory for a Mother’s Day product roundup. I was asked to write copy that was theme-driven, tying the inventory into the upcoming holiday. The copy was aimed at moms themselves, as well as customers who’d be purchasing the items as gifts.

 

JOSEPH ABBOUD COLLECTION

 

Boston-based Joseph Abboud is very loyal to his home town. His clothes are elegant yet masculine, and he makes a conscious choice to have them tailored in the U.S. I came up with the concept of using the names of Massachusetts railroad lines for each item of clothing. The designer's team loved the idea, and ended up using that naming convention for their Limited Edition 2014 Collection.

 

K&G Fashion Superstore

 

K&G offers up to 70% off department store prices on brand-name men’s, women’s and kids’ clothing, footwear and accessories.

 

Because most products are priced under $100, and the company’s frequent sales cause items to sell out, copy and images had to be posted online very quickly. Turnaround time for this E-commerce site was therefore rapid-paced, with descriptions that were also limited by character and word counts.

Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays

 

AAA acquired Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays and wanted to integrate its travel products into the club’s website. Each writer on the Travel Information Product’s team (of which I was a part) was assigned approximately 120 different properties (hotels, resorts and all-inclusives) to write consumer-driven copy about. This included hard data, as well as a short bit of romance copy.

As a long-term contract copywriter, I’m part of the E-commerce team—providing writing, editorial and creative services on an “as-needed” basis. With a strong sense of who their core customer is, and a definitive style guide to follow, copy for this menswear company is straightforward and no-nonsense. I write product copy for everything from accessories and footwear to casual separates and designer tuxedos.

TravelSmith was founded in 1992 to make dressing, packing and traveling as easy, comfortable and versatile as possible. Copy was needed for their monthly catalogs, as well as their web-only products. I wrote descriptions and titles for a variety of apparel and accessories—all with the discerning traveler in mind.
